CLINICAL STUDY ON CARCINOMA IN SITU OF UTERINE CERVIX



Abstract
Routine cytologic screening of the crevix and cervical biopsy have increased the early and accurate detection of premalignant cervical lesion. The paper was based on a series of 31 cases of cervical carcinoma in situ which were treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Medical Center, from January 1, 1979 to December 31, 1983.
The results were as follows :
1. Total number of cytologic examination was 17,968 and 76 cases revealed carcinoma in situ(0.42%0) and 125 cases invasive cervical cancer(0.6%):
2. Average age of carcinoma in situ was 44.9 years and 50.5 years in invasive cervical cancer.
3. Mean duration of sexual life and parity was 23.1 years and 3.8 in case of carcinoma in situ of cervix.
4. Punch biopsy was done in all cases and con-ization was performed in 10 cases.
5. Positive correlation between cytologic and tissue examination in case of carcinoma in situ were 67.8%.
6. Extended hysterectomy was performed in 22 cases, simple hysterectomy in 7 cases- and conization in 2 cases.
7. 28 cases(90.3%) were followed for 6 months and 17 cases for 1 year, 6 cases for 2 years and 1 case for 5 years. There was no recurrence during follow-up., but further close observation will be needed.
